Description: Instructor Gayle Antonides offers a two hour course on hand sewing and visible fabric mending, the art of fixing, and keeping items out of the landfill. We will learn several mending techniques you can use on different fabrics, and different types of damage which fabric may sustain. Including decorative techniques such as applique and darning. Learn to love the imperfections that make your clothes perfect for YOU.
Bring your own fabric item to be mended/customized. If you do not currently have any items needing fixing feel free to bring a piece you’d like to add some patchwork customization to. This could be a tote bag, piece of clothing, pillowcase, blanket, etc.
This event is also BYOB. Feel free to bring your favorite beverage to enjoy while crafting. We have glasses available, no need to bring disposables.
When: Thursday, 10/8, 6-8pm
Skills taught: You will be taught a number of mending stitches, including straight stitch, blanket, and ladder, and how to applique, darn and lace
Skills needed: None! All you need is the desire to create in community and to have a fun evening.
Supplies used: Supplies provided include scrap fabric, sewing thread, embroidery thread, glue sticks, and sewing needles. Students should bring their own garment, accessory, or linen to mend.
What you’ll leave with: A personalized mended piece of clothing!
