Photo Embroidery, Saturday 11/21
Description: Learn how to add color, texture, movement, and whimsy to some of your favorite photographs. Photo embroidery dates back as far as the early 1800s, when silk embroidery on photographs was taught at specialized academies. And today, we’re seeing a resurgence in popularity of this fun, and meaningful, art form.
Bring your favorite photographs and we will show you how to design, prep, and embroider your photo. If you’re concerned about altering an original photo, we can also print a copy and glue it to card stock. We will also have vintage photos and postcards available to embroider, should you want to go that route instead.
This event is also BYOB. Feel free to bring your favorite beverage to enjoy while crafting. We have glasses available, no need to bring disposables.
When: Saturday, 11/21, 1-4pm
Skills taught: You’ll learn how to lay out your design, how to prep the photo for embroidery, and how to embroider. If needed, we can also review key embroidery stitches, such as running stitch, back stitch, and french knots.
Skills needed: This is a beginner friendly workshop, but it would help if you have some basic knowledge of embroidery stitches and you are comfortable with an embroidery needle.
Supplies used: All will be provided and will include tracing paper, awls, and embroidery floss. We will have vintage photos and postcards available, but you are encouraged to bring your own photos. The end product makes a wonderful gift or keepsake!
What you’ll leave with: You will leave with a finished embroidered photo!
Meet your teacher: Gabrielle has over 30 years of crafting under her belt, and a love of community in her heart. She built CraftNation to be exactly the kind of place she always wished existed. Walk in, grab some supplies, and create, make something with your hands and find your people while you're at it.
All workshops at CraftNation are offered at a sliding scale. For guidance on which price you should pay, please see our Sliding Scale page.
