Multimedia Stained Glass Workshop, Sunday 11/22
Description: Join us for a unique stained glass experience!
Led by stained glass artist Jonah, aka The Lazy Glazier, we will make a multimedia stained glass art piece.
Using pre-cut glass panes as a base, students will create a piece of artwork using dried plant matter, imagery from magazines, books, and vintage ephemera.
When: Sunday, 11/22, 12-3pm
Skills needed: None! Patience with yourself and a desire to learn a new skill is all you need.
Please note stained glass work involves hot tools, sharp glass edges, and materials that require care and PPE.
All students must follow Jonah and CraftNation’s safety rules, including wearing closed-toe shoes, pants, and long-sleeved shirts, having long hair pulled back, using protective gear as instructed, and carefully washing hands after handling chemicals and solder.
We will provide gloves, N95 masks, and protective eyewear. If you have a respirator mask that you’d like to use, please feel free to bring it.
Skills taught: Students will learn collaging composition, tiffany style foiling technique, and soldering
Supplies used: All will be provided and will include stained glass panels, copper foil, 60/40 lead solder, dried and pressed plants and flowers, and various images. Please feel free to bring your own magazines, images, or ephemera if you’d like.
What you’ll leave with: Every student will leave with a multimedia suncatcher or wall art of their own making!
Meet your teacher: Art has always been a staple in Jonah's life being the child of a photographer and a ceramist. His journey as a stained glass artist began with his first job at 15, working in a stained glass studio and becoming familiar with the basics. Glass, however, wouldn't be his preferred medium initially, having left his job to pursue and receive a theater degree. There, he became better acquainted with woodworking in the scene shop.
After graduating, and struggling through the pandemic, he decided to pursue his art, and began a small business with a focus on woodworking with recycled and reclaimed materials. Over time, he reintroduced stained glass to his work and that medium quickly became favored. He has been honing his craft, learning and incorporating various passions, in order to bring you the work you see today.
