Mosaic Picture Workshop, Saturday 9/26

from $55.00

Description: In this three hour workshop, artist Sarah James will lead us through the process of making a mosaic of your own design. We’ll begin with drawing out your design; we’ll have materials on hand for  inspiration or feel free to bring your own. Sarah will then walk us through how to safely cut tiles and dishware, lay out our design, and adhere the pieces to a wood panel.

Please note this is a 2 step process. The adhesive takes 48 hours to dry and you will then need to grout it. You have 2 options for grouting: you can take a kit home to complete on your own, or you can come back to the studio to grout with Gabrielle.

Feel free to bring your favorite beverage to enjoy while crafting. We have glasses available, no need to bring disposables.

When: Saturday, 9/26, 1-4pm

Skills taught: You will learn how to design a mosaic, safely cut tiles and dishware, and how to adhere and grout a mosaic.

Skills needed: None! Students just need a willingness to learn and patience with themselves.

Supplies used: All supplies will be provided and will include tiles and dishware, wood panel, adhesive and grouting kits

What you’ll leave with: Each student will make a mosaic design of their own!

Meet your teacher: Philadelphia based artist Sarah James grew up in Easton, Pennsylvania, home of Crayola Crayon. Nothing gave her more joy than that big box of crayons made in her hometown, and they served as her introduction to making art. As a teen, her father taught her to develop black and white photography, further setting her on the path to art-making!

Sarah fell in love with printmaking in college. She was enthralled with the process, the mystery and magic. She enjoyed making multiples and giving them away.  She took a tilemaking and mosaics class more than a decade later and it felt like printmaking, but with clay!

Never wanting to limit herself to one medium, Sarah is known for her tile address numbers, linocut prints, and collages. She currently sells her work at several shops in Philadelphia and creates mosaic commissions for clients nationally. Sarah also teaches mosaic workshops in her studio and across the city.

All workshops at CraftNation are offered at a sliding scale. For guidance on which price you should pay, please see our Sliding Scale page.
