Introduction to Mixed Media Embroidery, Saturday 9/19

from $55.00

Description: In this four hour workshop, we will explore the pairing of embroidery with paint and beading to play with layering colors and textures. We’ll work with a pattern to embroider a woman dancing in the foreground. In the background, you’ll be guided through painting either a sunset or a sunrise, your choice. You can also choose to paint a meadow or grass field. You’ll be taught decorative stitches, such as french knots and lazy daisy, and be shown how to incorporate beading into your work.

Snacks and sparkling water will be provided. This event is also BYOB. Feel free to bring your favorite beverage to enjoy while crafting. We have glasses available, no need to bring disposables.

When: Saturday, 9/19, 12-4pm

Skills taught: You will be taught intermediate embroidery stitches, such as the lazy daisy stitch and french knot, how to paint embroidery fabric, and how to incorporate beading into your embroidery work

Skills needed: We would consider this an advanced basic class. You should be familiar with embroidery and know basic stitches, such as running, backstitch, split stitch, and chain stitch.

Supplies used: All supplies will be provided and will include embroidery hoop and floss, fabric with a printed pattern, paints, and beads.

What you’ll leave with: Each student will leave with a started mixed media piece and enough supplies to finish at home.

Meet your teacher: Erin (she/her) has been sewing by hand and machine since she hit puberty. In 2016, Erin began embroidering portraits of ‘nudes’ as a way to celebrate her friends. It quickly led to the creation of Nudie Stitches, and Erin has spent the last 10 years creating portraits for anyone who will pose. Erin’s embroidered art has been in galleries and on album covers. She embroiders clothes, hats, just about anything a needle can get through. Erin also enjoys breaking sewing machine needles by bulldozing through quilting haphazardly.

All workshops at CraftNation are offered at a sliding scale. For guidance on which price you should pay, please see our Sliding Scale page.
