Intro to Drawing: The Line, Thursday, 9/10

from $30.00

Description: Come explore different types of lines, such as contour, gesture, expressive, implied, and directional. We’ll experiment with line quality, weight, and texture, and discuss how the line is used to communicate mood, movement, and form. You’ll learn to understand the line as an element of art and to recognize how artists use it to create visual interest.

We’ll begin with some warm up drawing. Once everyone is comfortable, we’ll create a guided drawing that relies primarily on lines rather than shading or coloring.

This event is BYOB. Feel free to bring your favorite beverage to enjoy while crafting. We have glasses available, no need to bring disposables.

When: Thursday, 9/10, 6:30-8:30pm

Skills taught: You’ll learn the importance of lines in drawing and how to manipulate them to convey texture and movement.

Skills needed: None! Just a desire to create in community and patience with yourself.

Supplies used: All supplies will be provided by CraftNation and will include drawing paper, ball point pens, and pencils.

What you’ll leave with: Each student will leave with a finished art piece of their own making!

Meet your teacher: Amy Kelly is a Philadelphia based mixed media artist. Amy has a BFA in Drawing and has been teaching since 2013. Crocheting, bookbinding, and watercolor are her specialties. She currently makes commission paintings for clients, teaches art workshops, and makes mixed media artworks based on religious and cultural symbolism.

All workshops at CraftNation are offered at a sliding scale. For guidance on which price you should pay, please see our Sliding Scale page.
