Description: Learn all about the magic of Sun Printing! Sun Printing, aka cyanotype, is an old form of photography which uses sunlight, iron salts and water to create a photographic print. It dates back to the 1850s and is characterized by a unique prussian blue color.
Workshop attendees will be guided by local artist Lauren Fiasconaro to create their own sun prints. No experience needed - just come with creativity and enthusiasm! Feel free to bring a small, flat object with an interesting shape to try printing with. Flowers, leaves or other plant matter work great! Otherwise, all materials will be provided.
PLEASE NOTE: The event is weather dependent (we need at least some sunlight!) and could be cancelled due to rain. An update will be sent via email on Friday Oct 2 if it is cancelled and refunds will be issued.
Feel free to bring your favorite beverage to enjoy while crafting. We have glasses available, no need to bring disposables.

Skills taught: You will learn the basics of cyanotype and how to compose prints
Skills needed: This is a great workshop for beginners! No prior skills required, just an eagerness to learn!
Supplies used:We will be creating prints with prepped cyanotype paper and a variety of materials like flowers, leaves, negatives, netting and lace. Supplies are included in the workshop fee. Feel free to bring your own small, flat object to try printing with!
What you’ll leave with: Students will leave with four sun prints of their own creation.
Meet your teacher: Lauren Fiasconaro (she/her) is a visual artist who works in eco-minded alternative photo processes. Her work explores the complex relationships of humans and nature from an ecocentric point of view, often driven by concerns with climate change and environmental degradation.
Lauren graduated from Pratt Institute with a BFA in Photography and minors in Sustainable Studies and Art History. She is now based in Philadelphia and has exhibited locally at venues such as Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens, Vox Populi, Luster Gallery and Studios, The Halide Project, and the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education.
