Intro to Cross Stitch, Wednesday 9/16
Description: Looking for a new hobby while you binge Netflix that isn’t doomscrolling? Or are you a crafter magpie looking to pick up another skill set? Maybe you want to make cute, customized presents for friends and family this year? Take Cross Stitch 101 and learn everything you need to know to create handmade, hand-stitched creations and get started on your first project.
This event is BYOB. Feel free to bring your favorite beverage to enjoy while crafting. We have glasses available, no need to bring disposables.
When: Wednesday, 9/16, 6-9pm
Skills taught: You will learn how to read a cross stitch pattern, loop start method (no knots!), how to center your design on fabric, cross stitch and backstitch, and how to finish your project.
Skills needed: This is a great class for beginners! Knowing how to thread a needle is helpful, but not required. All you really need is an open mind, the desire to learn to create something with your hands, and a bit of patience with yourself.
Supplies used: All supplies will be provided and will include aida fabric, embroidery hoop, embroidery floss, and a pattern.
What you’ll leave with: Each student will leave having started a cross stitch piece and the knowledge to finish it!
Meet your teacher: Alexis Kumasaka is a life long crafter and tinkerer. These days she is most often found bent over a sewing machine, but cross stitch was one of her very first fiber hobbies as a small child and it holds a special place in her heart. It is a great way to keep anxious hands busy and gives you the kind of dopamine hit that only a finished, handmade project can. See more on Instagram!
All workshops at CraftNation are offered at a sliding scale. For guidance on which price you should pay, please see ourSliding Scale page.
