Description: Filet crochet, the original pixel art! Using two stitches, this technique creates picture-like designs. This popular type of crochet evolved from Fourth Dynasty Egypt lacing used in dresses for the aristocracy (that’s as early as 2551 BC!) and is deceptively (advanced) beginner friendly.
In this 3 hours workshop, you will learn the building blocks of filet crochet and how to design your own pattern. Once you have learned this technique, filet crochet can be used to make wall art, wearables, accessories, and home decor.
When: Wednesday, 11/18, 6-9pm
Skills needed: We consider this an advanced beginner class. You should be comfortable with making crochet chains, single crochet, and double crochet.
Skills taught: Students will learn the basics of filet crochet and how to design your own pattern!
Supplies used: All will be provided and will include worsted weight yarn and 5mm crochet hooks.
What you’ll leave with: Every student will leave with a completed filet crochet wall art or enough yarn to finish on their own.
